My name is_________________ and I am a resident of Asheville. I am writing in support of using the full amount of the CARES Act Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for rental assistance. Now is a precarious time for our renters, as massive layoffs and economic insecurity are putting people at risk of eviction and homelessness. CDBG is currently the only governmental funding source for rental assistance. Providing rental assistance has the added benefits of preventing homelessness, allowing landlords to pay their mortgages, stabilizes families and helps build the economy.
Please make rental assistance the main priority issue when using CDBG funds to strengthen families, the economy and our community.
