The Health Justice Program (formerly the ACA Program)
We are still here and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is still the law!
Open Enrollment for 2019 Plans has ended. Check below to see if you still qualify to shop for plans during 2019 because of a life change.
If you recently lost health insurance, were released from incarceration, moved or experienced another life change, you may still qualify to shop for health insurance after open enrollment. Call us at 828-210-3404 or schedule an appointment online by searching with your zip code below to find out more:
The Health Justice Program can help you get the facts and unbiased answer your questions. Pisgah Legal Services is a local non-profit with 5 year of enrollment experience and we are here to help people and families understand their options for affordable health insurance. Despite proposed changes to the law, the ACA is still here and coverage is still available for those who qualify.
New plans offered in NC may seem low cost but they actually cover very little and leave you on the hook for large medical bills. Here are some questions to ask when looking at health insurance plans:
- Can I be denied certain benefits because of preexisting conditions?
- Will I be asked any questions about my health status?
- Could that affect the price of my plan?
- Are there limits to how much my plan will pay for my care?
If the answer is yes to any of these questions, the plan is not a comprehensive plan protected by the ACA and you may be stuck with large medical bills. To be sure you get a quality health insurance plan go to www.healthcare.gov or make an appointment to meet with an application specialist at Pisgah Legal Services 828-210-3404
If you are confused about changes to health insurance give us a call and we can help you sort through the noise and look at what really matters for you and your family.
Another resource for people in North Carolina is the NC Get Covered website.
Medicaid and NC Health Choice accept applications year round. Apply at your local Department of Health and Human Services (DSS) or www.epass.nc.gov.
Many people qualify to enroll OUTSIDE of open enrollment! This is called a “Special Enrollment Period.”
Married? Lost your job and health insurance? Moved to a new area? These are just a few of the examples—there are many more. Schedule an appointment today to see if you qualify to enroll outside of open enrollment.
