Anticipated Surge in Evictions Down for Now

Pisgah Legal housing attorney David Bartholomew recently spoke to Caitlyn Penter from WLOS about the unexpected low numbers of evictions since the eviction moratorium ended three weeks ago.

“The docket this week in Buncombe County is pretty close to what a docket would look like in September of 2019,” but he is still cautious about what could come. “We’re really fearful of a huge amount of evictions just because the moratorium reduced the amounts by so much,” he said.

Rental assistance is still available to avoid eviction for non-payment of rent. If you live in Buncombe County, apply with the DHHS at 828-250-5500 or if you live outside Buncombe, apply with NC HOPE at www.rebuild.nc.gov/hope-program.
