On September 5th, Pisgah Legal learned that instead of receiving $0 in VOCA funding, we will receive approximately $350,000 a year for two years. While this is unexpected good news, it still leaves a huge funding gap for this essential program. Legal services, especially enforcing protective orders and obtaining custody, are crucial to breaking the cycle of abuse. Together, let’s make sure survivors have access to justice.
Help us preserve, protect domestic violence legal services
Major federal funding cuts are threatening Pisgah Legal’s domestic violence prevention services to people – primarily women and children – across our mountains who depend us to help them face their abusers in court and navigate the legal system.
A few years ago, more than a million dollars in federal funding was being allocated to Pisgah Legal to provide this life-saving assistance, but then the government changed the way funds were distributed. Starting October 1, 2023, our funding drops to zero.
In 2022, more than 7,000 local people came to Pisgah Legal for help to escape domestic violence and stop child abuse. We will not abandon those who need us most! We are working hard to replace these funds so that we that don’t have to turn survivors away. Please stand with us!
