There are currently 16 active Community Engagement Markets throughout Buncombe County. These markets offer an outlet and common place for the County and community members to build relationships and strengthen the community through the provision of food and other important resources at no cost to the public. These markets are formally known as Popup markets, and they were started in 2014 by Buncombe County’s Community Service Navigators.
These markets are coordinated by eight (8) part-time Community Connectors who are employed by six (6) community-based organizations who have funding contracts with Buncombe County. The Connectors are community leaders who have a vast wealth of knowledge and experience within the neighborhoods and communities that are being served. The markets are also staffed with local community volunteers from each community.
Health Screening and other community resources are occasionally available at the markets. The Community Engagement Markets are open to the community and located throughout Buncombe County.
