Approximately 300 friends of Pisgah Legal Services gathered on March 22nd at the annual Jazz for Justice celebration. The fundraiser was held at The Venue in downtown Asheville and featured live entertainment by The Rich Willey Jazz Band.

Three exceptional individuals were honored at the event: Anne Kimmel, Recipient of the Terry Van Duyn Community Volunteer Award; Roy W. Davis, Jr. (1930-2015) and George Ward Hendon (1941-2013) were both honored posthumously for their extraordinary contributions to the legal community and to Pisgah Legal Services.

Honoree and long-time volunteer Anne Kimmel said, “I stayed involved because I found that I liked and greatly admired the Pisgah folks I met while serving on the Development Council. I found people who were dedicating their lives to helping those who cannot, for a variety of reasons, navigate our system. I continue to be impressed with the number of children whose days and nights are improved through the advocacy and protection provided by PLS. Many feel safety for the first time in their young lives, allowing them to grow into healthy adults, with an appreciation of acting with compassion for others. I’ve mentioned it before, so I hope it doesn’t sound trite when I say that, in so many ways, Pisgah Legal works diligently to create the world in which I want to live, where the elements of care and nurturing are guarded and protected and allowed to flourish.”
