Legal Assistant/Screener/Receptionist

Pisgah Legal Services, a community-based, non-profit law firm that provides advice and representation on certain civil legal matters to low-income people living in and around Asheville, N.C. seeks a legal assistant to work with several staff attorneys to help clients meet basic needs and as a back-up receptionist and part-time screener of clients. 

Qualifications:  Excellent verbal and written communication skills; word processing skills; experience with data entry; ability to understand, remember, and carry out complex instructions; experience in law office systems.  Experience working and communicating with low-income population and as a legal assistant preferred.  

Responsibilities:  Back-up existing receptionist, screen applicants for eligibility, gather documents, type documents and dictation, draft discovery, communicate with clients, and perform various administrative duties as needed and assigned. 

Salary:  Depends on experience.  Excellent fringe benefits, including 401(k), health, dental, and disability insurance.
