Pisgah Legal Services, a community-based, non-profit law firm which provides free civil legal assistance to low-income people in the area surrounding Asheville, North Carolina, has an opening for an attorney to serve a six-county area in the Blue Ridge Mountains, at its Rutherford County office. General Poverty Law Attorney

Attorney needed to work out of the Rutherfordton office of Pisgah Legal Services, to handle general poverty law cases including landlord/tenant, consumer law, and public benefits issues. This attorney will handle cases in the state district courts. Additional duties include:

  • Collaboration with medical providers and other organizations to better serve PLS clients
  • Affordable Care Act certification and work with consumers
  • Community Economic Development outreach and advocacy


Qualifications:  N.C. licensed attorney or commitment to become licensed in N.C. promptly.  Spanish language skills would be an asset, as would experience in addressing problems associated with extreme poverty through the law.
